BASEBALL: Cards complete doubleheader sweep

The Ball State University baseball team thwarted a comeback attempt by the University at Buffalo and held on to win 3-2 in the second game of Sunday's doubleheader.

The Cardinals never trailed in the game and swept the doubleheader. Senior Adam Quinn pitched an inning in relief of sophomore Kolbrin Vitek for the win. Bulls' starter Pierre Millville-Deschenes gave up three runs in six innings for the loss.

Vitek began the fourth inning with a double and came around to score the first run of the game on an RBI groundout from first baseman Ian Nielsen. The freshman added two more RBIs in the sixth inning, scoring Vitek and center fielder Jeremy Hazelbaker on a double.

Junior closer Morgan Coombs pitched two innings for the save, but ran into trouble in the ninth inning, allowing one run and the tying run to reach third.
