AAF to compete in regional contest

The American Advertising Federation will go for a first place finish in the National Student Advertising Contest for the first time since winning the contest three years in a row from 2004 to 2006.

Jeff Renoe, senior advertising major and AAF president, said large corporations usually sponsor the event. The Century Council is sponsoring the contest this year.

The competition has teams from 16 districts across the nation create a full-scale advertising campaign, do research and make a strategy about deterring students from dangerous drinking practices on college campuses, Renoe said.

AAF was allocated an imaginary $10 million budget to create and promote advertisements, he said. The group presentation team turned the research into a 32-page, full-color booklet that was sent to Washington, D.C. in March. The booklet will be turned into a 20-minute presentation that five members will give to a panel of four judges, Renoe said.

"It's a really big event," he said. "It's something that's given Ball State a reputation as being one of the best advertising schools in the area and in the nation."

Renoe said 30 members will attend the competition. Ball State usually takes more students than any other school because it has the largest membership in the district.

He said the group worked hard on the project and is looking forward to it.
