$20,000 bond set in ex-student's robbery

A former Ball State University student charged with armed robbery had his bond set at $20,000 during his initial hearing Monday, according to court documents.

Chadwic Nash, 20, was arrested April 5 on suspicion of robbing two cases of beer from the Marathon gas station on the corner of Tillotson and Bethel avenues, according to Muncie police reports. Nash told the clerk he had a weapon when he walked out of the store, according to reports.

Judge Marianne Vorhees set Nash's next hearing for June 8 and his trial by jury for Aug. 3. The court entered a preliminary plea of not guilty for his Class B felony, according to court documents.

According to Indiana Law, Nash has 20 days to enter a guilty plea if he chooses. If he is convicted of armed robbery, he faces a prison sentence between six and 20 years, with a standard sentence of 10 years. The court can also fine him up to $10,000.

Delaware County Jail was holding Nash as of Monday afternoon. He has a bail reduction hearing set for Wednesday.

As a freshman, Nash was an outside linebacker for Ball State's football team during the 2007-08 season.
