Hamer Shafer, one of Ball State University's largest donors, died at age 93 Wednesday in Muncie.
Ball State dedicated the bell tower in honor of Shafer and his wife, Phyllis, in 2000 because of their contributions to the university.
Most recently the Shafers donated $1 million to the Ball State Bold: Investing in the Future capital campaign. The Shafers also established the Sally C. Gibson Memorial Scholarship, which is given to a non-traditional nursing student.
Before retiring, Shafer owned Muncie Power Products.
