A year after winning the Butler Spring Invitational, the Ball State University women's golf team defended its title with a first-place finish Tuesday.
The Cardinals finished with a 639, 14 shots better than the second-place team, University of Evansville, at the two-day, 36-hole event.
Ball State's Kristy O'Connor also defended her title at the Butler Spring Invitational. O'Connor tied for the medalist honors last year and beat out teammate Sarah Windlan.
The Cardinals' Brittany Kelly, who leads the team in average score this season, was right behind O'Connor as she tied for second at this year's invitational.
The team title was the first for Ball State since its fall opener at the Thunder Golf Invitational in August.
Ball State returns to competition Monday at the Longwood University Invitational at the Poplar Hills Golf Course in Farmville, Va.
