Bracken Library's Bookmark Café celebrated its anniversary Wednesday afternoon.
The Bookmark Café supplied participants with complimentary samples of Seattle's Best Coffee and cappuccino muffin shots. Visitors were also able to participate in a raffle for bookmarks and coupons for free coffee, which were drawn every hour.
The event also featured live music, which included an acoustic guitar and bongos. Junior music education major Joe Young and junior percussion performance major Nathan Shew began their performance at 2 p.m. for the growing crowd.
Young said he performed the live music for the grand opening for cafe and was happy to come back for the anniversary.
Barbara Dorton, morning supervisor for The Bookmark Café, said the café was busy since the beginning of the celebration.
Elizabeth Poore, assistant director of operations for residence halls and dining services, said The Bookmark Café has met the need on campus to have access to food and drinks in the library, and it gives students the chance a place to gather and meet with friends.
Dorton said customers' responses had been positive since the café opened.
Junior music education major Lane Bewley said The Bookmark Café is convenient.
Rod Brook, general manager of The Bookmark Café and The Atrium, said some customers mentioned they had never visited the café before Wednesday's celebration, but the staff accomplished what it wanted to by drawing in new customers.
Titus Austin, first-time café customer and junior telecommunications major, said he had never considered visting Bracken to go to the café.
"I don't really think about coming to the Café when I come to Bracken," he said. "I just think of books. It is nice that you can come into the Café and get a coffee to get you through the day."
Poore said Wednesday's event was like a "real birthday party."
