Tryouts to begin for College Idol

Open auditions for the College Idol Talent Showdown will be 6 p.m. Friday in Student Center Rooms 301 and 302.

Derick Virgil, director of the Multicultural Center, said students who can sing, dance or rap are encouraged to compete for scholarship money and the opportunity to advance to the semifinal round, which is 9 p.m. Saturday at Pruis Hall. Both rounds of competition are free to attend, he said.

One finalist in each category will advance from Saturday's semifinal round to finals later this spring at the Fort Wayne Coliseum, Virgil said. While grand prizes have not been announced, Virgil said winners of the vocal competitions could receive recording contracts because the program is connected with studios in California.

The College Idol Talent Showdown semifinals will also feature performances from up-and-coming artists from Fort Wayne-based music recording label Street Theory Records, he said.
