For coach Joel Walton, Friday's win proved a victory last season against at team from the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation wasn't a fluke.
The Ball State University men's volleyball team beat the University of Pacific for two consecutive seasons. However, this season the win came on the road as the Cardinals won 30-23, 30-26, 28-30, 30-25.
"It's a win on the road and in California. I'm always going to be pleased with that," Walton said.
Friday was the first time the Cardinals (5-5, 2-1 Midwestern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association) won a match on the West Coast since the 2003 season, when they defeated the University of Southern California.
Outside attacker Todd Chamberlain had a season-high 19 kills and was one of four players to finish the match with at least 10 kills.
Walton said he was happy with Chamberlain's performance, especially with Pacific's (1-9, 1-6 MPSF) match strategy of eliminating offensive production from the Cardinals' middle attackers.
Ball State will conclude its West Coast road trip with a match against No. 7 Stanford University at 10 p.m. in Stanford, Calif.
"I'm really excited to play Stanford," Walton said. "I'm looking forward for us to play well and play with the same intensity we had against Pacific."
