MEN'S GOLF: Cards start season-opening tourney 13th

Competing at the Flamingos Golf Club in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, the Ball State University men's golf team opened the 2008 spring season with its first tournament in program history outside the United States.

After 36 holes, the Cardinals are in 13th place. Junior Ben Lakoff, who shot a 77 and 71 in the first two rounds, leads Ball State. He is currently tied for 29th place individually.

With a team-combined score of 610, the Cardinals are 44 strokes behind the leader, the University of Louisiana-Lafayette.

The North Texas/GADO Classic features 14 American universities and three Mexican amateur teams.

The final round of 18 holes will begin today at 8 a.m.
