The Ball State University women's tennis team (1-0) faces off against Wright State University (0-0) Wednesday at the Muncie YMCA Tennis Center.
Cardinal head coach Kathy Bull said she hopes her team can make the necessary improvements after Ball State's 6-1 season-opening victory against the University of Dayton Saturday.
"For me, the match is more about us, and I won't worry as much about our opponent," Bull said. "I would just like to see my singles players play a little bit smarter, and I wanted to be just a little bit sharper earlier in the doubles matches."
Today's match will open the spring season for Wright State, which finished 3-21 last season and 0-7 in Horizon League play. The Raiders also had a 6-1 loss at the hands of Ball State one year ago.
The Cardinals' Sophie Quist, with a right shoulder injury, and Katherine Rist, with a neck injury, will see some "limited action" against Wright State, as both are dealing with tendonitis issues, Bull said. Both won their matches in Ball State's victory against Dayton.
Senior Jennifer Pollack said she is looking for her team to be strong from the first serve.
"As long as everyone, including myself, goes into each match playing their style of points and dictating from the first ball, I think we will do well," said Pollack, who went 2-0 in singles and doubles against Dayton.
Wednesday's match begins at 3 p.m.
