After a fun meet to resume their seasons Tuesday, it is time to get serious for the Ball State University's men's and women's swimming and diving teams.
The Cardinals swept every event at the House of Champions Relay on Tuesday at IUPUI. They return to Indianapolis Friday to face IUPUI, Western Illinois University and St. Louis University.
"I don't think [the meet] will be a letdown but the atmosphere will be a little bit more serious," junior Megan Ploetz said.
Tuesday's meet was the first time Ball State competed in a meet that was comprised completely of relays. It was also the first time the Cardinals had a meet in which men and women competed together in the same events.
Ploetz said it was the first time she ever competed in a meet like the House of Champions Relay and she really enjoyed it.
The Cardinals won the overall standings by sweeping the events, which were four women's events, four men's events and six events with men and women.
Tuesday's wins helped boost the teams' confidence after a month of not competing, Ploetz said.
"I am confident that we're going to do well based on the results of Tuesday night," she said.
While Ploetz said the meet was enjoyable and a good icebreaker, not everyone on the team had the same experience.
Sophomore Dane Mishler said he missed the meet because he had a lab that he could not miss.
"I really wanted to go to that meet and I ended up having to go to class that night," he said. "It was a letdown."
Mishler will see his first action in more than a month when the meet begins at 6:30 p.m.
