SWIMMING AND DIVING: Ball State dominates all events at relay meet

Cards sweep meet; get first experience with mixed teams

A month break did not seem to hamper the Ball State University swimming and diving teams as they won every event at their meet Tuesday.

The Cardinals won the House of Champions Relay Meet in Indianapolis Tuesday by more than 150 points, as they scored 435. The University of Evansville finished second with 270, the host IUPUI finished with 254 points and Western Illinois University rounded out the field with 239 points.

"We pretty much dominated the meet," co-coach Laura Seibold-Caudill said.

Tuesday was the first time that Ball State competed in a meet comprised of all relay meets. It was also the first time the Cardinals competed in events with both male and female competitors.

The Cardinals won all four women's events, four men's events and six mixed events.

Ball State had 21 individuals who were part of the winning teams.

Co-coach Bob Thomas said he was surprised that the Cardinals won every event in the meet.

Many of the Ball State swimmers swam in back-to-back events without a break but still performed well, he said. The meet was similar to a training exercise, he said.

Senior Addison Del Rio was part of five winning teams, including three mixed events. Sophomore Jacob Morris was also part of five winning teams, including in three of the four men's events.

After a month off from the last competition, all four teams at the meet were worn out, Thomas said.

"Our swimmers just swim a lot faster when they're tired," Thomas said.
