After a special orders of business was called so an information session about the Feb. 27 Career Fair could be shared, the Ball State University Student Government Association got to work.
Although caucuses met, no reports were given, but the committee chairmen gave their reports.
Below is what was discussed:
Academic Affairs: Chairman Sam Godsey said his committee asked random people about things the committee could research. Some of the things students suggested include how to test out of more classes and standardizing grade scales so all professors have the same grading scale, Godsey said. Standardizing sections of the same class so different professors do not teach a class differently than another professor with the same class also was mentioned, he said.
Community/Environmental Affairs: Chairman Kyle Johnson said he and his committee were looking into getting kiosks updated and replacing roofs and old boards. He said his committee also was looking into getting battery recycling in more places on campus besides the residence halls. Another item discussed was getting bird feeders hung around campus to attract Cardinals and other birds in an effort to enhance the campus' look, Johnson said.
Student Safety: Chairwoman Carrie Cozad said she checked the intersection at College Avenue and Washington Street, but because it was on the corner of campus she did not know if anything could be done. She said she would still look into it. Cozad said she was still looking into getting a stop sign at the LaFollette Complex's parking lot.
Student Services: Chairman Frank Hood said he learned students could request specific DVD and CD titles for the library to purchase by going to its Web site. He said Disabled Students in Action and members of his committee would walk around campus checking handicap buttons to make sure they work at 3 p.m. Friday starting at the Atrium. Students who are interested in trying to get entertainment on campus such as popular bands, comedians or Broadway shows should join the Facebook group Emens Auditorium Performance Forum, Hood said. The group was started a year ago, he said, but he wanted to continue letting students know they can give their input on what events should be scheduled in Emens Auditorium and Pruis Hall.
Diversity and Multicultural Affairs: Committee Member Shaetonna Jackson said the committee was still trying to get a Multicultural Late Nite. She and the other committee members are brainstorming what cultural things could be done, she said.
