SGA continues business despite few senators

Intersection, B Book, movies make up list of issues to improve

With few senators at the tables, Wednesday's Ball State University Student Government Association meeting seemed a little quieter as there were fewer people discussing issues in the caucuses and committees.

Below is what was discussed after the caucuses and committees met:

CAUCUS REPORTS:

On-Campus Caucus: Chairwoman Michelle Voss said she and her caucus would see what could be done with putting information into the B Book. She said students have come to her saying they were concerned about their home addresses and phone numbers being in the book. Voss said she also would check with the Residence Hall Association about clarifying its mace and pepper spray policies.

Off-Campus Caucus: Chairwoman Maggie Bailey said she and her caucus would put together a list of things to do for those students who might be staying in Muncie during Spring Break.

Organizational: Chairwoman Ciara Wells said she wanted to remind students the Miss Unity Pageant was Saturday in Pruis Hall.

COMMITTEE REPORTS:

Academic Affairs: Chairman Sam Godsey said he and his committee were still working on having a Dead Week policy. He said the committee members would be revising the policy based on recommendations college deans have submitted. Godsey also said he hoped to present the policy soon.

Governmental Affairs and Student Awareness: Chairman Timothy Dykiel said the How-to book was finished, and it would be presented to the executive slate once a formatting option was chosen. He also said the committee was needing and looking for ways to market the upcoming SGA elections.

Student Safety: Chairwoman Carrie Cozad said she and her committee would look into getting stop signs, or at least yield signs, placed by LaFollette Complex. She said some students have expressed concern as they turn onto McKinley Avenue. Cozad also said she would see what could be done about improving the intersection of College Avenue and Washington Street. Some students have told her how dangerous the intersection was by the parking garage, she said.

Student Services: Chairman Frank Hood said SGA and the Students with Disabilities would walk around campus next week and check that the handicap buttons worked. Hood also said he was still looking into increasing the movie selection at the library but was told the increase would depend on money.
