Following the Fall Semester, the emergency text alert system has about 5,000 members signed up for the service, Director of University Communications Kevin Burke said.
At the text alert system's last testing, about 4,000 messages were sent in 17 minutes. Another test is planned, Burke said, but it is not yet scheduled.
Loren Malm, assistant director of security, policy, systems and assessment, said in a previous interview the university used vendors to send messages to students, and the university might add more vendors to the system to increase the distribution ability.
Burke said the emergency alert system also included e-mail messages and voice mail box messages.
