Central Michigan

A former University of Michigan runner will be an assistant coach for the Central Michigan women's track and field team in the 2008 season.

Adam Kiesler was named the Chippewas new coach Wednesday and will primarily work with multi-event competitors and jumpers, according to cmuchippewas.com. Kiesler competed in the long jump and multi-event for the Wolverines from 2002 to 2007 and graduated in April 2007. Prior to his job at Central Michigan, he served as a volunteer assistant coach at Michigan for the during Fall 2007.

Kent State

The Kent State men's golf coach will receive a national award for coaching next week.

Coach Herb Page was named the 2008 recipient of the Golf Coaches Association of America Labron Harris Sr. Award on Wednesday. The Labron Harris Sr. award is an annual award given to the coach who best ensures the growth of golf through teaching and community involvement. The award will be presented to Page Monday.

Page has been involved in the Kent State golf program for the last 30 years and has won 13 MAC championships and 15 MAC Coach of the Year awards. Also, he was inducted into the golf coaches' Hall of Fame in 2004.

Miami

The "Voice of the RedHawks" is taking over the duties of Miami's assistant athletic director.

Steve Baker, who has broadcasted Miami sporting events for 19 of the last 23 seasons, was named the school's Assistant Director of Athletics Wednesday.

An Indiana native, Baker was the university's Director of Broadcasting for the last four years. In addition, Brown has served as the play-by-play announcer for Miami football and men's basketball for 10 seasons.

"Rare are the individuals within a department who daily demonstrate the extreme dedication, loyalty, work ethic and passion as our own Steve Baker," Brad Bates, Miami's athletic director, said in press release, "His daily actions continue to symbolically re-write his job description in meaningful and creative ways that inspire the rest of us in our service to this great university."

Ohio

Coach Frank Solich was one of two coaches elected to the Board of Trustees of the American Football Coaches Association on Wednesday.

As a member of this board, Solich will help establish the policies of the AFCA, which currently has more than 10,000 members ranging from high school to NFL coaches.

Solich has been Ohio's head coach since 2005 and won the 2006 MAC East championship. Prior to coaching the Bobcats, Solich was the head coach at Nebraska University for six seasons.

In addition to Solich, the board is comprised of 14 members, including University of Washington coach Tyrone Willingham, University of Michigan coach Rich Rodriguez, University of Texas coach Mack Brown and Ohio State University's coach Jim Tressel.
