With about a month until the Ball State University football team plays in the International Bowl, the university is responsible for selling 10,000 tickets.
Director of Intercollegiate Athletics Tom Collins said Ball State was allotted 10,000 tickets and must sell them or it will have to pay for the tickets.
"The Mid-American Conference has bought all those tickets, so, as the participant, those tickets become our responsibility," Collins said.
Tickets for the game cost between $15 and $40. All of the tickets Ball State and Rutgers University get to sell are in the level 100 seating, which cost $40.
Ken Hoffman, the executive director of the International Bowl, said the two schools get nothing but the best seats. The tickets that are bought through the universities are for seats behind the teams' sidelines.
Tickets are also available through Ticketmaster, where they also range in price from $15 to $40.
Though tickets can be bought elsewhere cheaper, Collins said, Ball State is encouraging fans to buy tickets through the university.
"We'd hope that they would want to support the team and the best way is to buy tickets through us," he said.
Ball State gets part of the profit from the tickets bought through the university but not through general admission, Collins said.
Fans who cannot attend the game can still support the university, Collins said. Ball State is asking fans to buy tickets and donate them back to the school.
The tickets that are donated back to the university will be given to the band and cheerleaders to help defray some of the costs, he said.
If Ball State would sell all of its tickets, it would not be a problem to get more, Collins said.
The seating capacity of the Rogers Centre is 46,374, though, according to the Ticketmaster Web site, tickets in the level 500 seating are currently not for sale.
In its five home games this season, Ball State averaged more than 1,300 fans. The attendance exceeded 10,000 for four of the five games. In the game against Central Michigan University Oct. 6, there were 9,617 fans in attendance.
There were 10,162 fans in attendance in the game against the University of Toledo, 14,333 in the game against the University at Buffalo, 15,488 in the game against Miami University and 15,824 in the game against Western Kentucky University.
It is too early to tell how many fans will make the trip to Toronto, Collins said.
Ed Shipley, the executive director of alumni programs, said the Alumni Association would try to set up travel packages for fans to the game. The organization has contacted companies to charter planes or buses and it is still working on trying to get a package together.
Other universities are also trying to reserve charter services which makes it tougher to find transportation to the bowl game, Shipley said.
Collins said Ball State wants to offer a travel package so fans have options when traveling.
"I think it's something that we have to do," he said.
According to the U.S. Department of State Web site, fans who decide to travel by air would need a passport or other Western Hemisphere Travel Initiative-compatible document. WHTI-compatible documents include a passport, SENTRI, NEXUS, FAST and the U.S. Coast Guard Mariner Document, according to the U.S. Department of State Web site.
When traveling by land, people need either a WHIT-compatible document or a government-issued photo ID, such as a driver's license, and proof of citizenship, such as a birth certificate.
