CAMPUS: BSU maintenance crews are back to work

Wednesday's snow might have been a change for students, but it's back to business for Ball State maintenance crews.

Kevin Kenyon, vice president of facilities planning and management, said crews have been working overtime to clear campus sidewalks, making them safe for pedestrians.

There is a total of 26 workers, most of whom work 5 a.m. to 5 p.m. clearing parking lots and shoveling sidewalks, Kenyon said. Some workers start as early as 3 a.m., he said.

"The get paid overtime for it, so they generally appreciate the opportunity," he said. "They're very loyal and make every effort to come in and do their job well."

The main change in routine for facilities during winter is the longer hours, Kenyon said.

"We don't have a lot of access to temporary or short-term employees," Kenyon said.

He said facilities was already prepared for snowy weather this winter.
