Central MichiganThe Mid-American Conference made more tickets available to Central Michigan fans for the MAC championship football game against Miami Saturday at Ford Field in Detroit.
Central Michigan has 1,000 additional tickets available for its fans as a result of the added tickets. The Chippewas get 600 more sideline seats and 400 more student tickets. Also, Central Michigan added a third bus to its caravan.
The game is at 11 a.m. and will be nationally televised on ESPN2.
Bowling GreenA Bowling Green senior was named as one of six finalists for the 2007 Rimington Trophy for the most outstanding college center Wednesday.
Kory Lichtensteiger was also a semi-finalist for the Draddy Award and was on the Lombardi Watch List.
The other finalists for the trophy are Steve Justice of Wake Forest, Jonathan Luigs of Arkansas, Alex Mack of California, Adam Spieker of Missouri and Cody Wallace of Texas A&M.
The winner of the award will be announced on The Home Depot College Football Awards show Dec. 6, on ESPN.
OhioOhio running back Kalvin McRae was selected Wednesday to play in the 2008 Hula Bowl.
The senior set school records with 1,434 rushing yards, 19 rushing touchdowns, 294 rush attempts and 119.5 rushing yards per game this season.
He also holds school records including career rushing yards with 4,398, rush attempts with 909 and all-purpose yards with 5,248.
The game will be played Jan. 12, 2008, at Aloha Stadium in Hawaii.
Northern IllinoisThe head coach for the Northern Illinois football team announced his retirement this week.
Joe Novak retired Monday after 12 seasons as the Huskies' coach. He had a 63-75 career record that included four MAC West Division titles and two bowl appearances.
He will remain at Northern Illinois through June 30, 2008 as a special assistant in the athletics department and will direct the football program until a new coach is named.
Novak guided Northern Illinois to seven consecutive winning seasons from 2000 to 2006. He is tied for eight all-time among MAC coaches in victories and league victories.
