Cards' linebacker arrested Saturday

Senior was arrested on suspicion of DWI; released from jail

Ball State University football player Wendell Brown was arrested Saturday morning on suspicion of driving while intoxicated.

Brown, a senior linebacker, had the second most tackles on the Cardinals last season team but suffered a pectoral tear during off-season weight lifting. The injury caused him to be medically redshirted and ended his season.

According to officials at the Delaware County Jail, Brown was brought to the jail around 3:45 a.m. Saturday and posted bail at 7:15 a.m.

Ball State football coach Brady Hoke said he was still gathering information about Brown's arrest.

"I don't want to comment on it until I know a little more about what happened," Hoke said.

Brown has started 28 games in his college career. In addition, today is the one-year anniversary of Brown being named the Mid-American Conference Defensive Player of the Week following a career-high 12 tackles in 20-17 win against the University of Toledo last season.

In his three seasons with the Cardinals, Brown has 197 career tackles, including two sacks and 16 tackles for losses.

Tom Collins, director of the Department of Intercollegiate Athletics, also declined to comment about the arrest.
