Six players signed letters of intent for the 2009 season for the Ball State University baseball team Wednesday.
Cal Bowling is a right-handed pitcher from Yorktown High School. He was named all-county three times, all-conference twice and all-state once. He had a 12-1 record and an 0.83 earned run average as a junior.
Morgan Coombs is a right-handed pitcher from West Terre Haute and played at Lincoln Trail College. As a freshman, he had a 5-3 record and five saves to go along with his 1.87 ERA.
Cody Elliott played center field at Beechwood high school in Florence, Ky. He hit .409 with four home runs as a junior. He also had 21 stolen bases and earned all-state honors.
Nate Koontz is an outfielder and left-handed pitcher from Brebeuf Preparatory in Indianapolis. He was on the 2007 All-Marion County Team and the 2007 Indiana State Team.
Ian Nielsen plays first base and also pitches at La Porte High School in La Porte. He hit .344 with seven home runs and 35 runs batted in. He had a 8-2 record with a 2.52 ERA as a pitcher.
Justin Warrington is a left-handed pitcher from Watkins Memorial High School in Pataskala, Ohio. He has 302 career strikeouts. He was the Ohio Capital Conference Player of the Year with a 9-1 record and 0.98 ERA as a junior.
"Our number one recruiting philosophy is to bring championship people into our program, and more than anything, we've accomplished that with this class," coach Greg said in a press release.
