The Delaware County Sheriff's Office arrested a former Ball State University basketball player Thursday, Delaware County Deputy Prosecutor Eric Hoffman said.
According to the arrest warrant, police arrested Chapman on suspicion of possession of marijuana and maintaining a common nuisance, both class D felonies.
According to a search warrant, police received anonymous tips that Ball State students were using and selling marijuana in an apartment at Silvertree Apartments for several months. Police conducted surveillance and smelled burnt marijuana coming from the apartment, according to the warrant.
Police then saw two men leave the apartment and followed them in a car and stopped it, according to the warrant. According to the warrant, Chapman was the passenger and had more than $5,000 in his pocket. The car smelled like burnt marijuana and less than one gram of a substance, which field tested positive for marijuana, was found in the car, according to the warrant.
Police then returned to the apartment and found digital scales and more than 100 grams, 2.4 pounds, of a substance, which tested positive for marijuana, according to the warrant.
According to the warrant, Craig Edmonds, who lives at the apartment with Chapman, said he saw Chapman deal "large quantities" of marijuana from the apartment.
Hoffman said Chapman is out of jail as he has posted bond. Class D felonies can carry a fine of up to $10,000 and up to 3 years in prison.
Chapman played forward for Ball State during the 2003-2004 and 2004-2005 seasons.
