FOOTBALL: BSU announces 2008 non-conference games

With the Ball State University football team in the heart of its 2007 season, the Cardinals' athletic department released the four games that will comprise the program's 2008 non-conference schedule Wednesday.

"We are extremely pleased with the 2008 Ball State football schedule," Director of Intercollegiate Athletics Tom Collins said. "It is a good schedule from the quality of opponents to the balance of home and away games to the early home dates when the weather is still very conducive to watching college football."

Ball State's non-conference schedule, which is split with two home games and two road games, is headlined by a Sept. 6 game against the Naval Academy at Scheumann Stadium. The Cardinals beat Navy 34-31 in overtime earlier this season.

Ball State will also host Northeastern University, a Division I-AA program located outside Boston.

The Cardinals' two road games will be at Indiana University and at Western Kentucky, the team Ball State hosted this year for Homecoming. Next season will signal the end of Ball State's three-season series with the Hoosiers. Cardinals' coach Brady Hoke said he would like to see that series renewed in the future.

"It would be great if we could have a home-and-home series," Hoke said. "Indiana's an in-state rival, and it's a great rivalry we had."
