Children, candy and costumes filled residence halls as Ball State University students passed out candy to trick-or-treaters.
Students were able to hand out candy to children from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday.
Participating students put a sign on their door to let children know they would pass out candy.
Freshman Courtney Cors said the trick-or-treating was a good idea for the residence halls to do.
"It gives the kids a good, safe place to go to," Cors said. "They are inside and not cold and it gives us a chance to interact with the community."
Cors handed out candy in Brayton Hall of the LaFollette Complex.
Freshman Brittany Garrison said the college in her hometown also does the activity and everybody comes because it is for the whole town.
"I think it's cool that we started it here," Garrison said. "It also gives me an excuse to skip class."
Freshman Lori Christner handed out candy in Brady Hall of the Woodworth Complex.
"I thought it was a fun activity to get involved in on my floor," Christner said. "The kids were adorable."
She said about half of the hall participated in the activity.
"There was a little boy dressed as a lion, and he had a whole grocery bag full of candy," Christner said. "He was swinging the bag around and it was so heavy it flung him into the wall."
