Campus groups kick off Alcohol Awareness Week

Ball State University has planned a week of activities for National Collegiate Alcohol Awareness Week, which universities across the country observe on the third week of October, Health Educator Lisa Thomason said

The activities begin with a driving-while-intoxicated simulation from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. today on the University Green, Thomason said.

Participants will drive a golf cart, while wearing impaired vision goggles, through a course set up by Ball State Police, Thomason said.

Students can also make their way through an alcohol decision maze, she said. Participants will be presented with different scenarios and must make decisions as to what they would do in each situation, she said.

"At the end of the maze you reflect on your decisions and think about whether or not you would make the same choices if you had to do it over again," Thomason said.

A mocktail bar, root beer keg and ping pong will also be available, she said.

The same activities will be available Thursday, she said.
