More students graduated from the Ball State University athletics department than other universities, according to the NCAA.
According to a survey by the NCAA, the Department of Intercollegiate Athletics at Ball State had 85 percent of its athletes graduate in the 2000-2001 class.
Ball State was eight percentage points better than the national average of 77 percent. Ball State also finished better than Indiana University and Purdue University, which both had a 82 percent graduation rate.
"I'm very proud of the student athletes but also proud of the coaches who recruit the student athletes and buy into the concept of the student athlete being here and then the academic people who help us on campus," said Tom Collins, director of intercollegiate athletics. "It all works together and pieces together so we're real happy with that."
Of the 454 athletes, the men's teams graduated 81 percent and the women's teams graduated 88 percent.
