SOCCER: BSU looks to go undefeated in preseason

In its final exhibition of the season, the Ball State University women's soccer team will try to set its starting lineup, coach Michelle Salmon said.

Ball State's starters will see more playing time Saturday against Indiana State University than in their previous scrimmage against IUPUI.

"We're going to get closer to a starting lineup in the sense that our starters are going to play 50 to 60 minutes per game," Salmon said.

Indiana State will be a good test for the Cardinals because they are at the same level of play as Ball State's regular season opponents, Salmon said.

In Ball State's lone scrimmage of the season so far, the Cardinals defeated IUPUI 6-0.

The Cardinals will try to increase their defensive pressure on the ball and try to be less predictable offensively, Salmon said.

Against, IUPUI four Cardinals scored goals including two each from senior Lindsay Martin and junior Sarah Schumacker.

Junior Rachael Murphy and sophomore Amy Cleeter each played a half in the win. Cleeter recorded two saves on six shots while Murphy recorded no saves on three shots.

"I'm definitely expecting a higher level of play [from Indiana State] and a lot more shots," Murphy said.

Murphy will start at goalie in the exhibition and as of now will also be the starting goalie this season, Salmon said.
