IUPUI head men's basketball coach Ron Hunter has taken his name out of the running to fill the vacancy at Ball State University, IUPUI officials announced Tuesday.
ESPN's Andy Katz reported Monday that Hunter was close to signing a deal with Ball State and that an announcement could come as soon as Tuesday.
Ball State has been looking for someone to replace former head coach Ronny Thompson after Thompson resigned on July 13, two days after letters of new accusations from the NCAA arrived at Ball State.
Hunter, a graduate and former player at Mid-American Conference foe Miami University, decided to stay with the Jaguars rather than coach at Ball State.
"I was flattered to be in consideration, but I want to be at IUPUI," Hunter said in an IUPUI athletics press release. "I took the opportunity to explore another professional opportunity, but have ultimately decided that I'm happy at IUPUI."
