Parking meter costs doubled in most lots across the campus earlier this week without an announcement or press release from Ball State University Parking Services.
Current prices for most meters are $1 for 45 minutes, 75 cents for 36 minutes, 50 cents for 24 minutes and 25 cents for 12 minutes. Previously, 45 minutes on the meter cost 50 cents. 25 cents paid for 22 1/2 minutes on the meter, 10 cents paid for nine minutes and 5 cents paid for 4 1/2 minutes.
A Parking Services employee was not aware of the increase Tuesday afternoon and directed questions to Parking Services Office Manager Nancy Wray, who could not be reached for comment.
Penalties for overtime parking are a ticket and $10 fine if paid within 10 days of the ticket being issued and a $20 fine if paid after that.
Prices were changed at meters outside of Carmichael Hall, LaFollette Complex, Studebaker West Complex, Noyer Complex, Bracken Library, Woodworth Complex, Emens Auditorium, the Art and Journalism Building, Burkhardt Building and the Administration Building.
The meters west of Lucina Hall have not been changed over to the new rates. The meters on University Avenue are monitored by the city of Muncie and cost 25 cents per hour.
