Ball State University sophomore Tyler Rose died early Thursday morning in a motorcycle accident on the Southside of Indianapolis, Jim Adams, Rose's stepfather confirmed Thursday night.
Adams described Rose, who was a criminal justice and criminology major, as "a great kid that just made a bad mistake."
Police told local media that Rose, 20, fled from officers after they noticed a group of motorcyclists speeding on U.S. 31. Rose crashed at about 12:15 a.m. near the intersection of U.S. 31 and Banta Road.
Adams said his stepson had purchased the motorcycle he crashed "a couple months ago."
"He always wanted a motorcycle," he said. "Our worst fear was that this day would come. We knew deep down it probably would."
