This weekend the Minnetrista Cultural Center kicks off its summer events, including the Summerstage Concert Series.
The festivities begin with the Garden Fair's outdoor cooking demonstration, "Cooking in the Courtyard" from 6-8 p.m. on Friday. Chefs from the American Culinary Federation will instruct guests on cooking with herbs and wine. Dinner follows in the Orchard Shop Courtyard, just east of Minnetrista Parkway, on St. Joseph Street. Pre-registration is required and costs $35 per person and $60 per couple.
Southeast of the Orchard Shop, home gardeners can walk through the Garden Fair for tips on tools, planting and cooking their home-grown goodies, Marketing Manager Amanda Hicks said. The Garden Fair is located in the parking lot behind Minnetrista Cultural Center.
The Garden Fair continues from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday. Admission is free.
Both aspiring cooks and gardeners can appreciate the Farmer's Market for its fresh, locally grown fruits and vegetables lined along west St. Joseph Street.
The Farmer's Market also opens at 8 a.m. Saturday and ends at noon or until produce is sold out.
The market runs every Saturday and Wednesday until the last weekend of October. Wednesday's markets begin at 4 p.m.
Saturday night's events end on the East Lawn with the first of Minnetrista's Summerstage Concert Series starting at 7:30 p.m. Autographs and a Radio Disney broadcast with games precede the show at 5:30 p.m.
This show features 15-year-old Radio Disney performer Jordan Pruitt and is directed toward families and children ages 10-13 years old, marketing manager Sherri Beaty said.
While outdoor events are free to the public, other exhibits in one of Minnetrista's eight buildings cost $4 for students and children and $7 for adults, Beaty said.
Minnetrista encompasses a 40 acre campus off of Wheeling Avenue, a short drive from Ball State University.
The campus includes a museum, historic home, nature area and a portion of the White River Greenway.
