Earlier this year Alison Metzger began the next chapter of her life as a business owner. After working for Hallmark for 15 years, Metzger felt the next logical thing to do was to open her own business. She found a space in the Murray building downtown that fit the atmosphere she wanted to create.
Cassella's Kitchen opened on March 15, but had its official grand opening Wednesday. Metzger said she wanted to get comfortable in the space and get more merchandise in before having the grand opening.
"We're very fortunate it all came together," Metzger said. Cassella's Kitchen offers Muncie residents a place to buy cooking utensils, dinner sets, spices and cookbooks from chefs like Paula Dean and Mario Batali.
Although Cassella's has only been open for a few months, it has already drawn in Muncie residents. Mary Anna Beasley and her daughter Cathy Brinker came into the store on opening day.
"We like to support local businesses," Brinker said. Some newer customers are Tari Lambert, who said she "kidnapped" her friend Sandy Hindman to come to the store after coming in last week.
Metzger also plans to have monthly events such as cooking demonstrations and other product demos. The next event is from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on June 9 at Cassella's. Customers can find Cassella's Kitchen at 401 S. Walnut in downtown Muncie.
