TRACK: Cardinal runner to compete at nationals

Ball State University junior Amber Williams wraps up the indoor season for the women's track and field team Friday.

Williams is the only Cardinal to qualify for the NCAA indoor national championships in Fayetteville, Ark. after being named 2007 Most Valuable Performer for the MAC indoor conference championships Feb 23.

Williams earned the honor after she set the MAC record for the 60-meter hurdles in 8.19 seconds.

Earning her spot at nationals, Williams, also Ball State's 60-meter hurdles record holder, hit the national qualifying time.

Accolades have been plentiful for Williams, as she also earned MAC Track athlete of the week after winning two events at the Feb. 16 Ball State Triangular.

The preliminaries for the NCAA championships begin Friday evening at the Tyson Track Center in Fayettville, on the campus of the University of Arkansas. The meet continues on Saturday morning for contestants qualifying for finals.
