AT ISSUE: Women's basketball team plays host to WNIT game at Worthen Arena, students should attend

The Ball State University women's basketball team will take the next step in its record-setting season with tonight's game in the second round of the Women's National Invitational Tournament. The game against the University of Kentucky is the third time the Cardinals have been to the WNIT. As an added bonus, the game will be played in Worthen Arena.

Cardinal fans set a school attendance record earlier this season when the team won the Mid-American Conference West Division title with a crowd of 4,711. Students should show up in droves for tonight's game, and there's no reason another record can't be set.

So far this season, the women's team has a 10-1 record at Worthen Arena. Overall, the Cardinals have tied the most wins in a season with 24 and claimed the outright record for the most wins in regular season play with 22 wins.

With these wins and records before the season is even over, it's safe to say tonight's game will be one to watch - and Ball State students have every reason to attend the game and cheer the Cardinals on to another win.

Tickets for the game went on sale today, at $7 for adults and $4 for high school age and younger - but some Ball State students will get into the game for free. Stoops Automotive Group, The Ball State Federal Credit Union and Muncie Power Products showed their support for the team when they agreed to make a contribution that made a limited number of tickets available for free to students.

Now, students need to show their appreciation and support the team by claiming the tickets and going to the game to cheer on the Cardinals. The tickets will be available at the Worthen Arena Ticket Office starting at 10 a.m., and they'll be free while supplies last.

The Cardinals haven't played this deep into the postseason since 2003, when Tamara Bowie, who holds the Ball State career scoring record, led the team to back-to-back appearances in the MAC championship game and berths to the WNIT. Get your tickets and go to the game to show the team and your school support, while thanking tonight's student ticket sponsors for their generosity.

Students still have a chance to be part of a memorable and historic season of Ball State basketball.
