The Ball State University men's tennis team beat Eastern Kentucky University 6-1 on Saturday.
The Cardinals started out strong, winning the doubles point. The No. 3 doubles team of Jarrod Epkey and Joe Vallee won its doubles match 8-6 against Eastern Kentucky's Max Schindler and Fred Goncalves.
"I'm hitting everything pretty well, and I'm just pretty confident," Vallee said.
Vallee was the only player to win both his doubles and singles matches last weekend, and on Saturday he came out strong again. He defeated Vadzim Ivanis in two sets, 7-6 (5), 6-2. With the wins this weekend the sophomore has built up even more confidence, he said.
"It feels good that I've been winning a lot lately," Vallee said. "[I need to] keep working on my serve and staying aggressive."
The No. 1 doubles team of Joe Epkey and Jose Perdomo also won its match 8-3 against Zach Itzstein and Florian Kiefer.
"We tried to focus more on practice than we usually do," Perdomo said. "We played more doubles games. If we focus more in practice and if we take that to the game we'll be fine."
All five singles players who won did it in two sets. No. 1 singles player Joe Epkey defeated Lars Gratzki 6-2, 6-4. Aaron Phillips also won his singles match against Florian Kiefer 6-4, 6-2. Perdomo defeated Zach Itzestein 6-3, 6-4. Jimmy Brannon defeated Max Schindler 6-4, 6-2.
Ball State's Bret Berryman was defeated by Mel Segota 6-1, 3-6, 7-5.
With the win Ball State is now 4-6 on the season. The Cardinals play at the University of Michigan on Friday. Michigan will be Ball State's fourth Big Ten opponent so far this season.
