Since Tomohiro Kemmochi began his graduate studies at Ball State University, he has only been to the Museum of Art once. But, his single visit was enough to inspire him to enter the museum's slogan contest, which began last year, and will end March 30.
Carl Schafer, associate director of the Museum of Art, said the museum is looking for a slogan that is humorous and clever and "has a resonance with younger people."
The slogan would be used in ways similar to how "Education Redefined" is used for the university, Schafer said. It should serve as a mantra for both the university audience and the community audience.
"We have our roots in the community, and we don't want to lose that," Schafer said.
Students interested in applying can find a form on the Museum of Art Web site. The winner will be announced by April 13 in a press release, Schafer said.
Kemmochi said he entered two slogans into the contest. The first, "Feel the Feel" was inspired by the art itself, he said.
"I was looking at what they were saying about their Museum of Art, and they said they wanted it to be something that explained what the art was about, something about life, something about the inside of each person," Kemmochi said. "When it comes to art, to me, art lets us see into ourselves. Art helps us to feel what's inside of us."
The other slogan he entered was "Life Redefined."
"Art can give you a new perspective on your life and how you live it," he said.
