A former finalist on the TV show "So You Think You Can Dance?" is coming to Ball State University today to teach students hip-hop dance moves.
Sarah Mangelsdorf, director of Dance for the Department of Theatre and Dance, said Daivd Krich, better known as Kasper, is making his third appearance at Ball State and will teach three classes.
"He's an excellent teacher," Mangelsdorf said. "He'll break things down."
Krich will teach different styles of hip-hop dancing and house dancing to anyone at least 13 years old, she said.
Beverly Bautista, a senior dance performance major, said Krich is a cool guy who people can learn from.
"He's an easy-going guy," Bautista said. "He doesn't put any pressure on you; he's motivating."
She said Krich is humble as well, and it shows in his teaching.
"Some teachers move too fast, but he doesn't," she said.
Bautista said Krich has helped her and the Dance Department through his connections. On March 11, Justin Timberlake's choreographers have a workshop that Krich told the dance department about, she said. He has also kept the department informed of things going on in Chicago, she said.
Sara Little, a junior dance performance major, said she is part of a four-person dance group called "Dance Liaisons" that helped coordinate Krich's visit to Ball State. The group found him on the Web site for a hip-hop dance company called Dance 2XS, Little said.
Bautista said the lessons are not just for students in the dance department.
"Even if you aren't affiliated with dance, you can come in," she said.
