Senior Derek Brewington, whose family and friends have not heard from him in more than a week, stayed the past eight days at a New York City hostel, Ball State University spokesman Layne Cameron said.
The student's father, Dan Brewington, said he spoke to a man in charge of the hostel, who confirmed that 22-year-old Derek Brewington had been at the hostel just that morning.
"We were able to find enough information to be able to determine where he is, or at least was," Dan Brewington said. No one in the family has spoken to Derek Brewington yet, his father said.
"We are much better now that we know he is at least physically OK," Dan Brewington said. "Obviously we'd like to get him home and get him any kind of help he might need, but that's kind of up to him."
Cameron said university police consider the case closed.
