OUR VIEW: Happy anniversary

AT ISSUE: Letterman reaches 25-year milestone; that calls for a campus visit ... and a Top 10 list

David Letterman, arguably Ball State University's most well-known alumnus, celebrated his 25th anniversary on late-night TV Thursday. Letterman has racked up 4,506 episodes of his popular "Late Show with David Letterman," CBS said.

Letterman graduated from Ball State in 1969, and since then he's been back a limited number of times. Since he's not visited in recent memory, we think it's time to lay on the pressure.

Letterman recently signed a contract with CBS to continue his show through 2010.

So, in tribute to Dave's 25th anniversary, we present our top 10 reasons why Letterman should come back to visit Ball State sometime before his current contract is up.

Hit it, Paul ...

10. He would make the day a holiday with no classes - something the Super Bowl can't even pull off.

9. The university could name the new media building after him. If not that building, Dave's Duck Pond has a ring to it.

8. He could put on a show for students at Emens Auditorium - and it might actually turn a profit.

7. The university could give him minimal training and swear him in as an officer in the University Police Department. Wait...his network already dropped that idea.

6. He could headline an open mic night at mtCup/Motini's - and get a hot dog at Carter's nearly world-famous stand afterward.

5. He could meet Ball State's second most famous campus character, Happy Friday Guy. He might even get to ride the scooter if he plays his cards right.

4. On second thought, is Carter more popular than Happy Friday Guy?

3. Paul Schaffer. Pipe organ.

2. More Facebook groups than Letterman could ever long for.

1. Some administrative roles still exist within the university. Letterman could fill a position, and President Gora's administration would finally be complete!
