For the first time in his career, sophomore Anthony Newell has been named the Mid-American Conference West Division Player of the Week.
Announced Monday by the MAC league office, Newell averaged 17 points and 8.5 rebounds in two games for Ball State University against Northern Illinois University on Tuesday and Illinois State University on Saturday. He also shot 45 percent from the field, had two assists and tallied three steals in 37 minutes per game for the Cardinals.
Against Northern Illinois, Newell recorded his fourth double-double of the season and scored the game's winning shot to beat the Huskies 57-55. He scored 21 points, a career high, and 12 rebounds to earn the double-double.
