MEN'S BASKETBALL: Ball State falls to Akron, record at 7-15

Despite 15 points and a career-high nine rebounds from Peyton Stovall, the Ball State University's men's basketball team could not keep up with one of the Mid-American Conference's best teams and fell to Akron 70-52.

The Cardinals (7-15, 3-6 MAC) made 17-of-55 shots from the field and turned the ball over 14 times. Aside from Stovall, only Skip Mills was able to score more than 10 points for the Cardinals, on a 3-pointer and seven free throws.

Junior Micah Rollin fouled out in 10 minutes of playing time. Anthony Newell played 32 minutes and grabbed 11 rebounds but shot four-of-19 from the field.

The Zips (17-4, 8-1 MAC) had four players in double figures: Nick Dials, Dru Joyce, Jeremiah Wood and Cedrick Middleton. Fourteen players saw action during the game.

The Zips shot 54 percent for the game and made 14-of-22 field goals in the second half.

The Cardinals led the game once, by one point early in the first half.

The Cardinals have now lost two straight games and will look to turn things around when Buffalo University comes to Worthen Arena on Wednesday.
