Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity Inc. is doing open-mic poetry reading in the L.A. Pittenger Student Center Forum Room from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.
As an added twist, an artist will sketch what each poet says during the readings, event organizer Paul Best said.
The poetry reading is part of the fraternity's first week of events in six years, he said.
During the week, fraternity members will hand out coupons for free food, Best said. Tuesday night, the fraternity offered free admission to the movie "Daddy's Little Girl" at Showplace 12.
A dance party will be 10 p.m. to 2 a.m. Friday at the Carolina Room, Best said. Admission is $5 until 11 p.m., but will go up after that.
The fraternity took a break 2001 when membership fell. It used to have about 30 to 35 members, but now it has three.
Kappa Alpha Psi hopes to increase awareness about the fraternity, but the week isn't designed to recruit members, Best said.
"We want to maintain our standards," he said. "The motto for the fraternity is achievement. We want to fulfill that motto in everything we do."
