Businesses in area debate on whether to close

THE VILLAGEMost businesses in the Village are waiting on the weather to decide whether to close shop

Employees at the MT Cup, Pita Pit, Scotty's Brewhouse and the Discount Den said the businesses are currently open, but they are watching the weather for a turn for the worse.

"Every hour we take assessment of the weather outside and our employees' safety," Tim Jenyk, assistant general manager of Scotty's Brewhouse, said.

Candi Cook, manager at the Discount Den, said the shop will stay open if business is steady.

"We'll definitely be open until at least 5 p.m.," she said.

Pita Pit employees also said the business would be open until 5 p.m., and it is still offering its delivery services.

Jimmy John's general manager Derek Lakin opened his business briefly at 10:30 a.m., but he closed the restaurant at noon. Lakin said he did not expect much foot traffic for Jimmy John's today, and his employees would not be able to deliver food because of the snow.

"I opened it briefly until people weren't able to show up to work," he said. "I couldn't run a business without any staff."

Greek's Pizzeria, however, will remain open at all times, owner Andrew Goth said. The ovens used to cook the pizzas are gas and therefore do not rely on electricity.

"The only thing that would cause us to close would be if the power goes out for three days," Goth said.
