Ball State University students can now use their debit and credit cards at the Atrium and Noyer Dining Hall, Atrium assistant manager Mike Chandler said.
Signs on the cashiers' registers in the Atrium say, "Now Accepting Visa & Mastercard." In order to use a debit or credit card, customers must show a driver's license to the cashier, Chandler said. Student IDs are not a valid alternative, he said.
The two dining areas started accepting debit and credit cards on Wednesday, Chandler said. In an earlier interview, Director of Operations for Dining Liz Poore said she didn't predict the service being ready until Spring Break.
Chandler said students and staff have been asking for this service for a long time.
On the first day, about 20 people used debit or credit cards, he said. He estimated between 30 and 40 people used debit or credit cards on Thursday.
Chandler said the service would eventually be available at every dining hall, but he did not know exactly when. Customers coming through lines have been grateful for the convenience the service provides, he said.
