The Ball State University women's basketball team improved its record to 13-2 on the year with a 55-46 win at Eastern Michigan University on Saturday.-á
The Cardinals shot just 26.9 percent (7-of-26) from the field in the first half and were faced with a 25-19 deficit at intermission. However, Ball State improved that number to 52 percent (13-of-25) in the second half and outscored the Eagles by 15 points in the last 20 minutes to earn its first win at Eastern Michigan since 2003.-á
Defensively, the Cardinals held Eastern Michigan to 34 percent (16-of-47) from the field and forced 20 turnovers.-á
Ball State was also able to run the floor, outscoring Eastern Michigan 23-7 in points from turnovers and 14-7 in fast-break points.-á
Ball State forward Julie DeMuth recorded her fifth double-double of the season, leading the Cardinals with 13 points and 14 rebounds. Cardinals' point guard Kelsey Corbin scored 12 points and had a game-high six assists.-á
Eastern Michigan's Patrice McKinney contributed a double-double to the Eagles' cause with 10 points and a team-high 12 rebounds.
Eastern Michigan was viewed as the preseason favorite in the Mid-American Conference's West Division. However, the win put the Cardinals in sole position of first place in the West with a 4-0 conference and divisional record. It is the third time in the program's history that the Cardinals have started off the conference season with four consecutive wins.
