Technology in Muncie is becoming more mobile for residents and Ball State University students as Verizon Wireless spends millions of dollars to bring V CAST and BroadbandAccess to the city.
V CAST is a multimedia service for phones that offers music, games, videos, weather and more on demand.
BroadbandAccess averages user speeds of 400 to 700 kilobits per second, which is similar to most broadband or DSL connections people have in their homes.
"BroadbandAccess was created for the person who is always on the go," Verizon Wireless spokeswoman Michelle Gilbert said. "A lot of the time, those are professionals or business customers that are going from place to place."
The services will also help Ball State students who use them because students travel from home to school to work.
"College students are almost like businessmen in regards to how much they are constantly moving, so this will be a great fit for them, too," Gilbert said.
The company's V CAST and BroadbandAccess services are available to more than half of the nation, Gilbert said.
People who do not own a Verizon cell phone can still receive the BroadbandAccess service, Gilbert said. It will be available to people via PC-cards that fit into most laptops.
