The Ball State University gymnastics team (1-3, 0-1) recorded its first victory of the season, defeating the University of Alaska-Anchorage 189.325 to 186.575 Sunday in Irving Gym.
Senior Jenna Tarkington placed first in the vault with a score of 9.775. Senior Kelly Watson set a career-best in the floor with a score of 9.725, and won the all-around competition scoring 38.450.
The Cardinals swept the Seawolves in all four rounds. The Cardinals won the vault 48.225 to 47.450, the uneven parallel bars 47.150 to 46.375, the balance beam 45.750 to 45.350 and the floor exercise 48.200 to 47.400.
To raise awareness for breast cancer, the Cardinals wore pink uniforms throughout the meet.
The Cardinals' next meet will be Feb. 3 against Bowling Green State University in Bowling Green, Ohio. The Cardinals have eight meets left, with four in February and four in March.
Five of the eight remaining opponents for the Cardinals are in the Mid-American Conference.
