The price tag for a Saturday night out bowling strikes and scarfing down wings just dropped $6.50 for Ball State University students.
With a school ID, students can get discounts at restaurants, tanning salons, automotive service shops and other businesses around Muncie.
Student Government Association worked with the Student Savings Club, a private company based out of Chicago, to arrange the discounts.
The Student Savings Club works with local businesses to help students make college a little cheaper, according to the Student Savings Club's Web site.
As of Thursday, 27 businesses offered discounts to Ball State students. The discounts are accepted at Muncie-area companies only, SGA President Asher Lisec said. These discounts are also available to Ball State faculty.
Some companies offering discounts include Buffalo Wild Wings, Papa John's, Liberty Bowl, Jiffy Lube and Days Inn. The Student Savings Club Web site has a complete list of participating businesses.
"The ID cards give students an opportunity to spend money, interact with citizens and help the local economy," Lisec said.
Tara Twibell, a manager at the Papa John's on Wheeling Avenue, said she is glad her business is offering discounts through the club because it helps her, as well as the business, give something back to Ball State. Twibell said her business will gain patrons while saving students money.
Tyler Clemens, a junior and SGA senator, said he thought the discount club was a great program.
"SGA worked extremely hard to get it done for the students," he said. "It is a great way to get the students out into the community."
Students must show their valid school ID before placing an order at the business, according to the Student Savings Club's Web site.
Discounts are not valid with any other offers and exclude the purchase of alcohol. The Web site is frequently updated and while some discounts do expire, other discounts are added, Lisec said. She encourages students to register online to receive other discount offers.
