WOMEN'S GOLF: Cardinals close fall season on down swing

The final match in the fall season for the Ball State women'sgolf team was marked with disappointment as well asanticipation.

The Cardinals placed 10th in a 13-team field at the Pat BradleyInvitational hosted by Florida International University inMiami.

"It was a really difficult golf course and was very windy thefirst two days," head coach Shelley Sanders said.

"We had a couple very good individual scores, but collectively,as a team, we were a little rusty, and I think that hurt us."

After shooting a team score of 331 in the first two rounds, BSUrebounded with a 320 in the final day.

Sophomore Ali Meyer, who shot a 234 (75-79-80) through threerounds and finished 10th individually, led the team.

Ball State will now prepare with anticipation during the winterfor the spring season, which begins March 11.

"I look for a very good spring (season) from us," Sanders said."I think we've improved and will continue to improve.

"The team is excited knowing we can be very competitive and willbe motivated to work hard over the winter and have a goodspring."

Sophomores Meyer and Katie Sundger and freshmen Amber Uphaus andChelsie Flannery highlighted the season with strongperformances.

Uphaus and Flannery have averages below 81 strokes through 12and 7 rounds respectively in their debut season for Ball State.

"Both of those freshmen came in and contributed right away,"Sanders said. "That's very encouraging as a program.

"We can only get better and improve rapidly with a young teamthat is so deep."
