EAST DIVISION
Akron
What can be said about a team that finished 2-26 last year? TheZips return only one starter from last year's squad. Maybe that isa good thing.
Buffalo
The Bulls look to move up that next step after last year'simpressive 18-11 finish. Leading the way for Buffalo is seniorJessica Kochendorfer, who was named to her second preseason All-MACsquad this year. A versatile player, she was second on the team inscoring (12.0 ppg) and lead them in rebounding (7.2 rpg) andblocking (1.48 bpg) last year.
Kent State
The Golden Flashes lost many players from last year's 16-13 EastDivision championship squad, but have managed to reload and likelyto challenge again. Sophomore Lindsay Shearer is the team's onereturning starter and averaged 8.8 points and 5.7 rebounds lastseason.
Marshall
After winning their first MAC tournament game last year, theThundering Herd is looking to make some noise. Returning startersCatie Knable and Sikeetha Shepard-Hall each were named preseasonAll-MAC selections after earning conference honors a year ago.
Miami
Though the RedHawks lost three starters to graduation, Miami hasone of the conference's top rebounders coming back in Colleen Day(6.4 rpg). Also returning is Kim Lancaster (9.8 ppg, 4.8 apg), lastyear's inaugural winner of the Sixth Man award.
Ohio
Last year's 9-19 season was tough on the Bobcats, but theyreturn their top three scorers in hopes of improving on that mark.Junior college transfer Elizabeth Brown could become a strongcontributor in the paint.
WEST DIVISION
Bowling Green
Nine new players grace the Bowling Green roster this year.Third-year head coach Curt Miller is counting on the experience ofhis two seniors, Lindsay Austin and Stefanie Wenzel, to guide theyoung squad. Each player enters the season with more than 70 careergames played and over 600 points.
Central Michigan
The Chippewas' strength seems to be their youth. The program hasbeen continually improving over the last couple of years. Sophomoreco-captain Erin Kuhl is expected to put up big numbers after astellar freshman season in which she averaged 9.3 points, 4.6rebounds, and 3.2 assists per game.
Eastern Michigan
There will be plenty of fresh faces for the Eagles this year.The team lost five letterwinners and two starters. Senior guardMarion Crandall, the team's most experienced player, will be lookedto to hold the team together.
Northern Illinois
Sure they finished 12-16 last year, but they have four startersand nine letterwinners returning. So either the Huskies are goingto build on the experience they gained last year, or they willperform similar to last season with the same players. Expect theformer.
Toledo
The Rockets have three starters back from last year's 20-10team. Senior guards Mary Blessing (4.8 apg) and Kelly Walker (12.8ppg) will keep Toledo's engine running efficiently all seasonlong.
Western Michigan
Last year's West Division champions bring back three starters,including first-team All-MAC performer Casey Rost. Rost returns asthe league's leading scorer at 19.4 ppg. Also back for the Broncosis last year's MAC Defensive Player of the Year, Maria Jilian.
